Springbrook National Park & Gold Coast Hinterland Destination Guide
Springbrook National Park is one of Queensland's most spectacular natural landscapes, combining ancient rainforest, dramatic mountain escarpments, waterfalls, subtropical vegetation and panoramic views across the Gold Coast and surrounding hinterland.
Located approximately 100 kilometres south of Brisbane and inland from the Gold Coast, Springbrook forms part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. The park encompasses several distinct sections, including the Springbrook plateau, Mount Cougal, Natural Bridge and Numinbah Valley.
Springbrook Plateau
The elevated Springbrook plateau provides spectacular views across the Gold Coast and surrounding hinterland. Numerous lookouts provide opportunities to experience the dramatic relationship between rainforest-covered mountains, cliffs and the distant coastline.
Canyon Lookout is particularly notable for its views across the Gold Coast, while Best of All Lookout provides extensive views towards the surrounding mountain landscapes and northern New South Wales.
Waterfalls & Rainforest
Waterfalls are one of Springbrook's defining features. Purling Brook Falls, Twin Falls, Goomoolahra Falls and Bilbrough Falls are among the area's most visually impressive cascades.
Walking tracks range from short lookouts and rainforest walks to longer hikes such as the Warrie Circuit. The combination of waterfalls, rainforest, cliffs and streams makes Springbrook particularly attractive for landscape and nature photography.
Natural Bridge
Natural Bridge is one of Springbrook's most distinctive natural features, where Cave Creek has eroded through the rock to create a spectacular natural arch and waterfall surrounded by rainforest.
The area is also known for its glow worms, which can be viewed after dark under appropriate conditions and with care to protect the environment.
Gold Coast Hinterland
Beyond Springbrook, the surrounding Gold Coast Hinterland extends across a diverse landscape of rainforest, mountains, valleys and rural countryside.
Beechmont and the Numinbah Valley provide contrasting landscapes of elevated farmland, forested mountains and dramatic escarpments, making the wider hinterland an important part of the region's visual character.
Springbrook from Above
An aerial perspective reveals the scale and complexity of the landscape. From above, rainforest-covered mountains, deep valleys, waterfalls, escarpments and surrounding rural areas become part of one interconnected environment.
Changing weather, mist, cloud, sunlight and seasonal conditions can transform the appearance of Springbrook. Early morning is particularly rewarding when mist settles across the valleys and ridges.
